I recently had the opportunity to go sailing with the Ocean Hills Sailing Club and had to share it with you here because it’s the perfect example of how you can enjoy different local adventures as a resident of Ocean Hills Country Club.

The purpose of the Ocean Hills Sailing Club is TO PROMOTE AND ENJOY RECREATIONAL SAILING BY RESIDENTS OF THE OCEAN HILLS COUNTRY CLUB. (That’s straight from their website, but it’s also what I experienced that day out on the water with several members.)

My mom’s neighbor is a captain in the club and reached out to her last minute because they had two extra spots. She and I jumped on the opportunity – even though neither of us has any sailing experience.

The beauty of sailing with the club is that you get to spend time with experienced captains – you can jump in and learn to sail or you can just get out and enjoy being on the water. There is something for everyone.

The club chaters boats from San Diego Harbor Island Yacht Club and takes members out for sailing days. They also arrange short trips to enjoy whale watching, boat parades, visiting Military installations, and other harbor events.

There’s nothing like watching the San Diego skyline from out in the water. And, there’s nothing like sailing past the tip of Ballast Point and the Cabrillo National Monument.

The day I went was particularly beautiful because the weather was so warm. The club chartered 3 sailboats that day and we got to see a few club members take their first voyage as first mates after months of training and practice.

Our first mate, Stephanie Hewitt did such a great job supporting Captain Dave Ramgren. I assumed she grew up around boats, but she shared she joined the club with no experience and just fell in love with it. it just goes to show – you might have a passion for something you didn’t even know you had. And joining a club at Ocean Hills Country Club is a great way to try something new.
