While San Diego is known for its local breweries, another growing trend is speakeasy bars – each with its own unique theme. If you love creative cocktails and discovering new places, definitely add this one to your list.
Realm of 52 Remedies is one of our favorite local speakeasies (so far!). We keep going back with different friends because it’s always fun to take someone there for the first time and watch their surprise and delight as the evening unfolds.
Realm of 52 Remedies is hidden inside of Common Theory in the Convoy district of San Diego. It was inspired by ancient Chinese medicine and culture. You see that theme reflected in the decor as well as the food and drink menu.
You enter the speakeasy from inside the pub where a special door leads you into a mock apothecary with jars of exotic herbs & remedies. Your host greets you with the backstory of where the speakeasy gets its name and inspiration.
From there, you step into the dim-lit lounge where you are immediately transported to a very unique Asian-inspired bar. The decor is amazing and the cocktails are both unique and delicious. They change the menu seasonally so you always have something new to try.
Their food is fantastic, too. We have ordered several sides off of the food menu and have always been really impressed, so make sure you try something off of the menu while you’re there.
Realm of 52 Remedies is a truly unique experience and fun night out. Perfect for 2-6 people. It has a great vibe, but you can still carry on a conversation with each other. We also love that you leave feeling like you really went somewhere. It’s hard to believe you’re right on Convoy St.
You need reservations and have to plan two weeks in advance, but it’s worth it. Add it to your list of adventures!
