Right outside the gates of Ocean Hills Country Club, you can cross the street for a hiking adventure in the Lake Calavera Preserve.
In fact, you can make a trek through the well-maintained trails to visit one of only three volcanic plugs in Southern California! Cerro de la Calavera (also known as Mount Calavera) is an 513 ft (156 m) ancient plug dome volcano that last erupted 22 million years ago.
There are a few different routes to get to the top depending on the level of intensity you want to take on. But, no matter how you get there – the 360-degree views at the top are incredible.

Lake Calavera Preserve is a 260-acre natural open space area for hikers and dogs (on leash) as well as mountain bikers. It is the largest remaining contiguous natural area in coastal north county. Pretty nice to have it right here in our backyard. Get outside and explore!
