Residents are experimenting with a trial period of allowing FlingGolf on the course. We haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but we have been watching people play out on the course and it looks like they are having a great time!
What is FlingGolf?
If you’re not already familiar with it, FlingGolf is described as a mix of golf and lacrosse. Instead of using a full set of clubs, players use a single FlingStick to hurl the golf ball down the fairway and toward the hole. The mechanics are similar to lacrosse or baseball, making it easy for beginners to pick up while still challenging enough for seasoned athletes.
For those who struggle with a traditional golf swing, this can be a great alternative. But, it’s also a fun option for those who have never played golf or are looking for something different to add to this mix.
The HOA recently approved a trial period allowing FlingGolf to be played alongside traditional golf here in the neighborhood. It does seem to be catching on as we have seen several groups out playing in recent weeks.
Residents in favor of the new sport have shared that it opens up a new opportunity for residents to enjoy the course, it’s easy to learn, can be played alongside traditional golf, is more gentle to the course (less divots from clubs) and gets more people out on the course enjoying what is one of our most valuable neighborhood assets.
Residents who are hesitant to see the new sport on the course are concerned about ensuring course etiquette, addressing potential concerns with pace of play, course wear and tear and protecting what is such a valuable asset within the community.
We will see how it goes during this trial period. But, if you’ve never played, it’s a great time to get out and give it a whirl! Or should I say ‘fling’?
